Windows 7 and 10 users with auto-update enabled are already patched. If you are still running any XP PCs on your network you should replace them ASAP. A used Windows 7 PC will provide you with a low cost solution and protection you need. DO NOT DISABLE AUTO-UPDATES. If replacing a POS lane PC make sure any legacy ports required are available on the replacement PC. For example, a serial port for receipt printer or parallel port for label printer. If port(s) are not included with the replacement PC, an inexpensive PCI card should be purchased (not a USB adapter cable).
